- Empty contents of one Dioralyte sachet into a glass
- Add 200ml of fresh drinking water *
- Stir well until dissolved
For infants, or where drinking water is not available, the water should be freshly boiled then cooled.
The solution should be prepared immediately before being taken. Any solution remaining after 1 hour should be thrown away unless it is kept in a refrigerator in which it can be kept for up to 24 hours.
In the early stages of diarrhoea all foods (except breast milk in breast fed infants) should be stopped, but as illness improves, usually after 24 to 48 hours the normal diet should be gradually resumed.
Dosage
Infants up to the age of 2:
Usual dose is one to one and a half times the normal 24 hour feed volume of Dioralyte.
Children aged 2 to 12:
One sachet dissolved in 200ml of water after each loose bowel motion.
Adults including elderly persons:
The powder in one sachet dissolved in 200ml of drinking water or the contents of two sachets dissolved in 400ml of drinking water after each loose bowel motion. When vomiting is present with the diarrhoea it is recommended that small amounts be taken frequently. However, it is important that the whole of the required volume of Dioralyte be taken. If symptoms persist and no improvement is seen after 24-48 hours medical advice must be sought.
After using Dioralyte
After using Dioralyte you should not normally experience any undesirable effects. However, should you notice anything unusual tell your doctor or pharmacist.
